"He confirmed that Sport Supply Group is finding attractive purchasing opportunities in the economy but said these businesses are not all distressed sellers. In fact he said the latest acquisition had nothing to do with a company in distress. In the current tough economy Blumenfeld said the vertical approach to reaching consumers that Sport Supply Group uses through direct catalog sales is attractive to companies that want to continue to sell by coupling their efforts with Sport Supply's operations. Sport Supply Group said earlier in the month that its preliminary 2009 fiscal year data indicates that the company’s 2009 income will be at its highest level in the business’ 37-year history.
