Blumenfeld said Har-Bell will continue to run as a unit under the Sport Supply Group company allowing Har-Bell’s employees to leverage Sport Supply’s operational backbone while Har-Bell moves forward with “what they do best which is selling to the customer” Blumenfeld told the Dallas Business Journal in a phone interview. Blumenfeld added “Right now is an interesting time for these transactions. ” With financing hard to come by in the marketplace Blumenfeld said Sport Supply Group has found that companies in the team sports business are finding “it’s easier to play with you than against you. "He confirmed that Sport Supply Group is finding attractive purchasing opportunities in the economy but said these businesses are not all distressed sellers. In fact he said the latest acquisition had nothing to do with a company in distress. In the current tough economy Blumenfeld said the vertical approach to reaching consumers that Sport Supply Group uses through direct catalog sales is attractive to companies that want to continue to sell by coupling their efforts with Sport Supply's operations. Sport Supply Group said earlier in the month that its preliminary 2009 fiscal year data indicates that the company’s 2009 income will be at its highest level in the business’ 37-year history.

Sports leagues seek order against Delaware betting
    The Associated Press
FRMMER(AP)–1 day agoWASHINGTN — The four major pro sports leagues and the NCAA asked a federal judge Tuesday for a preliminary injunction to prevent Delaware from implementing its sports betting plan. With the motion filed in federal court in Delaware the leagues provided declarations from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NBA Commissioner David Stern outlining their fears of how their sports would be affected. The leagues argued that Delaware’s sports betting would result in harms “that cannot be remedied by subsequent monetary damages. “Congress banned sports betting in 1992 while allowing it in four states — Delaware Nevada Montana and regon — that had already been offering it. The leagues and NCAA argue that Delaware’s plan to allow single-game betting would violate the legislation because Delaware has never offered single-game betting before.

Faced withan economic downturn like the rest of the country the state hasdecided that one way to recoup some lost state income is to legalizeindividual-game sports betting. The proposal is pretty common sense. It’s legal to bet on sports in Delaware anyway just not on singlegames. But it isn’t a major health or wellness issue and it certainlydoesn’t carry the stigma of say legalizing marijuana if that stigmaeven exists anymore. The state can tax it heavily. And Joe Blow SportsFan gets to lay some legal action.
