    But sometimes a hobby evolves into something much bigger as Alameda residents Brian McDonald and Dewey St. Germaine can attest. What began as a simple individual collection for each has grown into a major tribute to Alameda sports history honoring professional and other high-level athletes who either graduated from high schools in Alameda or are in some other way connected to the island. The tribute called the “Alameda’s Professional Sports History: A Player Retrospective” opened July 5 and will remain on display at the Alameda Museum through Aug.

    Major League Baseball the NFL NBA NHL and NCAA say allowing betting on single games will cause the public to question the integrity of their sports. They want the state enjoined from taking bets on the opening games of the NFL season which begins Sept. The sports leagues say in the federal complaint that Delaware’s new sports betting law violates the state constitution and the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act or PASPA.

    Hart 42 will face the entire authority board for the first time since he was named the front-runner for the post this month. Hart is president and CE of the Lansing Entertainment and Public Facilities Authority in Michigan. Disagreements could arise among board members over Hart’s compensation package.

    Seems that when he signed a mega five-year contract a couple years ago with the Galaxy he didn’t realize he’d be showcasing his (still considerable) talents in minor league baseball stadiums. Yep I nearly choked on that comment uttered by an ESPN announcer Saturday night during the Galaxy-Kansas City Wizards telecast. The game was played of course on the Wizards cozy home field CommunityAmerica Park in Kansas City Kan. Now CommunityAmerica is also the home to our minor league professional baseball team.
