    GERMAINE and Brian McDonald are avid sports memorabilia collectors and longtime Alameda residents who suddenly have become the unofficial curators for their city’s rich athletic history. Hey somebody needed to do it but little did St. Germaine and McDonald realize when they met on the Internet a little more than a year ago through their mutual memorabilia passion that they’d become partners in a venture that is stirring the entire island community about its sports heritage. The two men conceived the Alameda Sports Project to research and coordinate that heritage which dates back to the 1800s when heavyweight boxing champion “Gentleman Jim” Corbett used to train in the city and reside at the Croll’s Building. That building is still standing and now serves as a restaurant.

The switch was made to save money according to a statement released by Forest City. According to published reports the Gehry design carried a $1 billion price tag.

    Coach Brad Childress imposed the deadline on the star quarterback according to ESPN which cited two unidentified sources Monday. The Sirius NFL Radio network however reported later in the day without citing a source that a deadline is not in place. When Favre a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player retired in February for the second time he blamed a partially torn biceps tendon for his poor play late in the season for the New York Jets. ESPN reported Favre had arthroscopic surgery last month on his ailing right shoulder but that it hasn’t responded.
