    An activist has ‘concerns’ with counting cheerleading as a sport for Title IX purposes. A group called Florida Parents for Athletic Equity says because the proposal excludes football from any cutbacks it violates the Title IX clause of the 1972 Education Act which prohibits sex discrimination in educational institutions. But the gender-equity activist leading the charge against the proposal told the Sentinel on Friday that she will hold off on filing the lawsuit after agreeing in principle to a compromise that could avoid litigation and restore games for some girls’ sports teams. The Florida High School Athletic Association board of directors met Friday to consider rescinding the controversial plan it approved in April to cut varsity schedules by 20 percent in all sports except football and competitive cheer for the next two years.
