Allen who had never won in two decades on the PGA Tour finished first in his seniors debut. It’s the first major of the year for players over 50 years old. After hitting close on the 18th hole he mugged for a camera and said "About time!" while laughing. Allen had earlier rounds of 74 66 and 67 to finish at 6-under 274.

Hilary Bowen led the Wildcats with five goals and Katrina Dowd and Danielle Spencer scored four apiece. Northwestern (23-0) which edged Penn in a semifinal Friday broke the record for goals in the title game and has won 20 consecutive tournament games one shy of the record set by Maryland from 1995 to 2002. Hannah Nielsen added six assists for a record 16 in the tournament. Jenn Russell scored twice for North Carolina (16-5).

Post win men’s championships — baltimoresun. The Red Dragons finished 19-2 a school record for number of wins and handed head coach Steve Beville his 200th career victory. The last time Cortland won the Division III title was in 2006. The Bullets finished 16-4.

The Indianapolis 500 at the Brickyard and the Coca Cola 600 the most unique event on the NASCAR schedule because of its length will be contested back-to-back Sunday. Both races are long-established can’t-miss events on the sporting lansdcape in the United States but neither have been run in today’s climate of a recessed economy tight budgets and a still-evolving Indy-car power structure. The new look for open-wheel motor sports actually began 15 months ago when the Indy Racing League and Champion Car World Series reunited under the umbrella of the IRL. The merger guaranteed — for the first time since 1996 — that two open-wheel racing series would not.
