The organization will spend the next year developing rules that will govern play including regulations on financial aid playing dates and recruiting. “The opportunity to play sand volleyball in the spring will spur growth in the sport. I wish I had that opportunity when I was at Stanford” said San Jose’s Kerri Walsh a two-time lympic champion who like most beach players competed indoors in college. “This development will give more women an opportunity for a professional volleyball career in the United States.

State officials have said they believe the horses died from an adverse drug reaction toxins in their food or supplements or some combination. Two days after the horses’ deaths the authorities said they had not uncovered any crime but would continue to investigate. The necropsies were completed Tuesday and revealed some bleeding but offered no definitive clues. The veterinary investigators said the results from the testing of blood and tissue for toxins would be more important in pinpointing a cause of death but those could take weeks.

Nascar put the two on probation for six races; neither was fined or lost points. Contact between the two caused Earnhardt to crash with 11 laps to go in the race. He led for 63 laps and appeared headed for a top-10 finish but the accident dropped him to 31st. After the race Earnhardt spun Mears on the cool-down lap.
