    immigration officials have agreed to let foreign athletes keep playing here as long as they leave the country after 10 years and apply for a new visa. The change came in a new policy memo issued by U. Citizenship and Immigration Services following months of lobbying by sports leagues and lawyers for foreign athletes. The memo obtained Monday by The Associated Press also came after the AP made inquiries to the agency about the limit. The leagues and lawyers had complained that the agency recently began enforcing a 10-year limit endangering the U.

    Mayor Mark Funkhouser and daughter Tara Squitiro attended a game in the suite last fall. It is also customary that Kansas City's mayor is invited to David Glass' suite for the Royals home opener. Members of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority get free tickets to the authority's suite at Arrowhead Stadium. The mayor council members state and county legislators can get admitted to the suite but would not have a designated seat from which to view a Chiefs game unless they got one from a sports authority member.     Ramesh Chopra opens First Down Sports Bar & Grill in Ballston

    us Digg This Ramesh Chopra and his family which has been in the local restaurant business for 15 years have opened a new sports bar in Ballston and plan to open one twice as big in Manassas next year. First Down Sports Bar & Grill located at 4221 North Fairfax Dr. is the family’s second restaurant. Its sister eatery called House of Wing is located in the Worldgate shopping center in Herndon and has been open for four and a half years. The process to move into the Arlington space which housed the sports bar Buffalo D’s took about six to seven months but the family finally took over Feb.

    LA sports museum closes to public; attendance down

    The museum announced Tuesday that low attendance prompted it to only offer tours by reservation for groups of at least 15. The museum showcases founder Gary Cypres’ personal collection valued at more than $30 million. It includes Babe Ruth’s 1934 All-Star uniform Joe DiMaggio’s record-breaking ball from his 56-game hitting streak and a collection of notable NFL jerseys. Cypres spent $1 million bringing the building up to city code during five years of developing the museum.

    Sports chains add to their North Texas store rosters

    At a time when many retailers are going out of business closing unprofitable stores and scaling back expansion plans the battle for discretionary sporting goods bucks is ramping up in North Texas. Major chains continue to expand and remain profitable inside a troubled retail field. Academy Sports & utdoors opens its 12th area store in McKinney today and Dick’s Sporting Goods is part of the new Park Lane multiuse development in Dallas. "Texas has been and continues to be the most competitive market that we compete in" said Dick’s president Joseph H. Schmidt during the company’s earnings call Tuesday. Dick’s has modified its mix here after a slow start to gain some "positive traction" and plans to open more stores in Texas. In June Academy Sports will open its 13th area store in Fort Worth and it plans 10 more stores for the region over the next five years.
