The same day there was another story in the newspaper. It seems that in the same edition there was an article praising Smith for winning the pole vault and finishing second in the high jump to lead the Los Gatos track and field team to a 79-50 win over Washington High. Could that mean Smith participated in two sports in a single day and won them both for the Wildcats? Judging from Smith’s impressive athletic achievements at Los Gatos it would seem anything is possible. It would have been nothing unusual for the four-sport athlete who starred for the Cats from 1943 to 1947 in football basketball baseball and track and field playing on seven league championship teams and winning an individual league title in track. For his outstanding accomplishments as a Wildcat the late Charles “Chuck” Smith will be among the 10 members that make up the sixth class of inductees in the Los Gatos High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Induction ceremonies will be held May 2 at La Rinconada Country Club. Smith entered Los Gatos High as a mid-term freshman in February of 1943 and by Advertisement yld_mgr.

He announced that if the state budget does not turn around the ax could fall on elementary school music programs middle school sports and lunch activities. “My theory is that we are planing for the worst” Ishiwata said. n March 15 teachers and staff members will receive notices that their position could be eliminated or transferred for the 2009-2010 school year. A final decision on work force reduction will be made prior to the May 15 notification date. Ishiwata explained in a phone call that midyear cuts for the current year are also a possibility.
