San Jose’s East Side high schools consider plan to save sports
San Jose Mercury News
Superintendent Bob Nuñez will recommend to the school board Monday cutting $2 million from athletics by reducing athletic directors charging students $100 each year to play and eliminating transportation to away games. The one big casualty: water sports — but all other sports programs would be spared. To avoid further cuts students and parents will have to raise nearly $1. 7 million by selling coupon books sports memorabilia and tickets to the San Jose Earthquakes soccer and akland Raiders football games. “I believe we are going to have an athletic plan the question is what it will look like. It definitely will not look like this year” Nuñez said.
