Wisconsin rules cheerleading a contact sport

The ruling states a cheerleader cannot sue a teammate for failing to catch her and that the school district cannot be sued for such occurrences. According to the National Cheer Safety Foundation Tuesday's decision is the first off its kind in the United States. The ruling comes from a law in Wisconsin saying participants cannot sue when they are involved in contact sports but it does not say what those contact sports are. In an earlier ruling it was decided cheerleading is not a contact sport because there is no contact between opposing teams.

The nonprofit organization also updated its branding image with a new logo that incorporates a more stylized look and a tagline including the phrases “Kids Programs” and “Premier Events. ”As part of celebrating a quarter-century of involvement in a host of events and activities including multiple NCAA Final Four basketball championships the group has also retooled its mission: “To transform our community through the power of sport. ”San Antonio Sports Executive Director Susan Blackwood says the organization’s new name “encompasses all that we are to this community and eliminates confusion in the marketplace. ”That confusion?“We are not a foundation in the sense that we are not a grantor” Blackwood explains.
