My favorite gift was a transistor radio. Here’s why: I knew that every night when the lights went out in my bedroom I could take the radio under the covers and secretly listen to baseball basketball hockey or broadcasts from all over the Midwest. So I guess you could say I always associate Christmas with two things: Midnight Mass and sports. Last year on Christmas day I wrote a column about all that about what sport gives us about how we keep coming back to sport — even after it disappoints us or maddens us or even disgusts us. I received a huge response to the column. If there have been at least 18 or 19 sequels to “Rocky” then why not a sequel to that column?Besides it is true.
