Neither business would disclose how much it was spending but both are involved with multiyear deals with the teams. David Carter executive director of the Sports Business Institute at the University of Southern California said the companies are taking a gamble that could pay off big. “This may be a good time to make the connection” Carter said. “When the economy is in trouble it’s a great time to expand market share when a competitor is pulling back.

It actually should have been praised for being resourceful enough to discover what outlet was carrying the game so it could bring it here via satellite. Considering the number of UB games carried recently by ESPN channels it was unfortunate that the game deciding its Mid-American Conference division wasn’t carried by the highly visible sports network. It was carried on something called the Buckeye Cable Sports Network in Ohio. According to a cable source the network’s equipment wasn’t high grade which was why the reception was so poor at times. A number of readers with the new FiOS service also have asked why they couldn’t find a channel carrying the game. FiOS doesn’t have a local programming channel in Western New York and wouldn’t have had a channel to put the game on even if subscribers had alerted it about the importance of the game. FiOS also won’t be carrying the state high school football finals today and Sunday.
