This, by the way, is only the first round. Not that it’s anything new for Montreal: They went crazy when the won the 1993 Stanley Cup and fans famously rioted following the 1955 suspension of Maurice Richard. So, what’s your view?
Is there something wrong specifically with Montreal hockey fans?
Or is this a symptom of a larger problem — sports fanatics who celebrate by destroying, stealing and terrorizing?
I was in downtown Toronto following two games during the Maple Leafs’ frenzied 1993 playoff run, and people partied but were generally well-behaved. After the 2002 Olympic gold medal win, I was among 10,000 people partying on Yonge Street.

New Delhi, Apr 23: A day after the bribe scandal forced K Jothikumaran to quit as secretary general of the IHF, Sports Minister M S Gill trained his gun at its Chief KPS Gill, saying he should also step down to restore faith in the hockey establishment. The Minister said Gill should “introspect and review” his position as the trust and faith in the fair selection of hockey teams has been shaken after the expose on a television channel. “Since yesterday, I have agonised long over the IHF. It’s recent disaster in Chile is still fresh in every Indian mind. Now, trust and faith in fair selection is shaken.

Sometimes I think we were better off in more innocent times — which is, to say, back when I could understand stuff better. Actually, I consider myself secular Amish. Synthetic rackets pretty much ruined the beauty of tennis. Children have no business swinging lethal aluminum baseball bats.
