ESPN is right to engage, not avoid, racial matters in sports
    ESPN – Apr 13, 2008
Almost by definition, an ombudsman is an avenue for complaint, but in March, the ESPN telecast that drew the most mail drew only praise. The program was “Black Magic,” ESPN’s two-part, four-hour documentary on the early contributions to civil rights and to the game of basketball made by players and coaches at historically black colleges. Viewers called it “superb,” “awesome,” “the best sports television I can recall. ” Its ratings were the highest ever for an ESPN documentary.

Roddick needed just over ninety minutes to dispense of Mathieu in straight
sets, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, and give the Americans 3-1 lead heading into the last
rubber of the match. James Blake then upended Richard Gasquet in their dead rubber, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4,
6-4, to give the United States a 4-1 victory in the best-of-five tie. The United States was unable to close out France on Saturday, as the doubles
team of Bob and Mike Bryan lost for only the second time in 16 all-time Davis
Cup ties. Michael Llodra and veteran Arnaud Clement pulled off a stunning 6-7 (7-9),
7-5, 6-3, 6-4 victory on Saturday to keep the French alive heading into
    Sunday’s reverse singles.

Phoenix. Johnson now holds a 141-point lead over Carl Edwards, who finished fourth.
