– NASCAR’s stars are serious about fighting drug use in the sport — even if it means regular, random testing. In the wake of revelations this week by former Nationwide and Craftsman Truck Series driver Aaron Fike that he was addicted to painkillers and sometimes used heroin at the track on the same day he raced, the drivers quizzed about the situation Thursday at Phoenix International Raceway were dismayed. “I cannot believe it,” two-time reigning Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson said. I don’t know what this means, where things go from here.

Politics has its fans, but it holds nothing like the fascination that millions of Americans have with sports. That doesn’t bother me. A country that tunes its television sets to the Super Bowl or the World Series in numbers that dwarf any presidential debate is probably healthier in its outlook and more sensible in its priorities than one in which.

That is, he placed at least one of his arms in a green jacket by leading on the first day of a Masters or by sitting in the vicinity. In between, with thousands of the calmest folks you’ll ever see gawking over nature’s beauty as much as the golfing talent everywhere, there were enough splendid moments Thursday at Augusta National to make you wonder if sporting life ever gets better than this.

I have heard no solid evidence of discrimination. High school sports is about participation. Michigan had higher participation numbers per capita than the national average in women’s sports. Michigan had a higher number of scholarships per capita than the national average.
