AUTO RACING PACKAGE: Former open-wheel champion Da Matta will race…
ESPN – Apr 2, 2008
“I had been waiting for that for a long, long time, for a good year and a half, waiting and waiting and waiting,” da Matta said, grinning. “The first thing was nice that I got in the car and it felt good right away and there was no struggle to get back on it. I was very worried about it because in other sports, in biking and running and these kind of things, these things depend more on muscles and aerobics. “The happy part,” he added, “is that I got back in the car and, like, three, four laps, everything was back. It was like, as we say, riding the bicycle. And I hope that goes for racing, too.

Chief executive Diego Bolzonello said that over the next two years the sports range will not have a significant impact on the group’s sales or operating margins. He noted that Geox has forecast overall footwear sales of 35 million pairs in 2010 compared with 21 million last year. The sports shoes are only expected to start notably impacting the group’s profit and loss account at the end of the business plan, Bolzonello said In its business plan to 2010, the company forecast overall revenues will rise annually by about 20 percent on average over the next three years, and that the EBITDA margin will reach about 27 percent of sales in 2010. Sports shoes represent about half of the overall shoe market, offering Geox strong growth potential, he said.

– Roush Fenway Racing doesn’t plan to take legal action against Michael Waltrip Racing for what it characterized as the theft of a sway bar unless there is evidence that the piece has been duplicated. Team president Geoff Smith said the issue would not have surfaced at all had Toyota general manager Lee White not insinuated that Roush’s team of Carl Edwards intentionally cheated at Las Vegas. Edwards was docked 100 points and his crew chief suspended for six weeks after the oil can lid in his car was discovered off during postrace inspection. “But for Lee White, in spite of his education and position, engaging in this vituperative slander of our organization we wouldn’t have said anything,” Smith said on Sunday at Martinsville Speedway. Waltrip acknowledged on Saturday that his team had the sway bar that team owner Jack Roush accused a Toyota team of stealing last season.

value; document. It’s a deep and constantly growing list, but I try to keep up with them as best I can. The former winner in the contest used to be spit bucket guy in boxing: holding a bucket of bloody spit the whole fight, being paid nothing, and often serving as a surrogate spit bucket yourself when the fighter blows a mouthful of foul liquid all over you in between rounds. (Boxers, for one reason or another, are all taught to spit in the least accurate fashion imaginable. )
Spit bucket guy, I’m sorry.
