Chariots is the only period sports movie to have pulled off the feat. Running, religion and anti-Semitism get addressed in this real-life story of how two British runners, Scot Eric Liddell (Ian Charleson), a devout Christian, and Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross), a Jew, approached their challenges in the 1924 Olympics. Like 2003′s Oscar-nominated and equally well-dressed horse biopic Seabiscuit (Universal, $13), it’s a good-enough movie that sparked some backlash from its overpraise.
