Really rather frightfully vulgar, don’t you think? India istreating its newfound prosperity like Viv Nicholson, the Sixties poolswinner who vowed to spend spend spend. That all ended in tears, of course. I think most of us who like sport are a trifle uneasy about this. The IPL hasbeen launched as a celebration of money. The sport itself has come a poorsecond. But are we right to have these reservations? Are we harking back tothe outmoded hypocrisies of amateurism? Are we being a bit prudish? Are weshutting our eyes to facts? But most certainly, money will allow the individual to becomeas brilliant as he or she is capable of being.

At Home Plate Bar and Grill across from Minute Maid Park, a boisterous crowd of about 60 volunteers for the Clinton camp waved U.
