com news servicesFeb 16, 2008DEKALB, Ill. — Northern Illinois University announced Saturday that sporting events will be canceled through Sunday, Feb. 24 in the wake of a campus shooting. The men’s basketball team has an away game against Toledo scheduled for Wednesday and a home game against Tennessee State slated for the 24th. The women’s team, meanwhile, was to visit Central Michigan on Tuesday and Toledo on Saturday, Feb.

Avudaiyappan has urged educational institutions to improve sports infrastructure on their campuses to produce talented sportspersons. Participating in a function at Mohamed Sathak Engineering College at Kilakarai on Monday on the sidelines of the ongoing Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering Sports (TIES-2008), he said that education without sports could not be considered as a right way of educational process. “Sports not only boosts the self-image of an individual, but also benefits physically in the long run. ”
The Government had drawn up a plan to generate employment for 20 lakh youths in the near future.

There is some speculation NASCAR knew all along who won and waited to milk the decision for attention. That’s a measure of how much the sport has changed, as it’s inconceivable that NASCAR would do anything for attention these days. The Daytona 500 is my favorite sports event of the year because it combines the atmospheres of opening day, the Super Bowl, a carnival freak show, a rock concert and a county fair, all in one crazy, wacked-out day. Shae Fitzpatrick led Brown (1-6) with 15 points and 6 rebounds while Sadiea Williams added 10 points and 7 boards. Kim Adams scored a game-high 17 points off the Penn bench. Fitzpatrick scored 11 of her points in the first half as Brown led 29-8 with 4:26 left and 36-21 at the half. Penn cut the lead to eight in the second half but Fitzpatrick, Williams and Ashley Alexander each hit clutch shots to push up the lead to double figures.
