THE SPORTS GUY
ESPN – Feb 13, 2008
Well, look no further. Remember, I’m the guy who wrote a column called “Welcome to the No Balls Association” last year, after the deadline passed without a major trade. Yeast worked the NCAA College World Series in 1991 and 1995 and the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. He also was selected umpire of the year by the International Baseball Federation in 1999, when he officiated at the Intercontinental Cup for the second time. He helped implement the NCAA’s first rules testing program for sports officials and the association’s development camps for officials. “More than anything, I am proud to have helped umpires across the country reach their goals and improve the level of officiating in college baseball,” he said. Yeast will remain a consultant with the NCAA through the end of the 2008 baseball season. A new coordinator of umpires is expected to be selected before the end of this year’s tournament, the NCAA said. Copyright 2008 by The Associated PressRelated Topics:.

At an 85-degree slope in some places, the Hahnenkamm race is sometimes considered the Super Bowl of alpine skiing. For the less brave, there are still plenty of opportunities to snowboard, cross-country ski and set off on an adventure hike.
The dog days of the sports year
St. Louis Post-Dispatch – Feb 13, 2008
For the first time in the century-old event, a beagle won best in show. If you owned a beagle, as Tipsheet does, you would understand the magnitude of this accomplishment. Beagles have great noses. If a spectator 30 rows up in the stands smelled of pork chops, Tipsheet?s beagle Haley would sniff that out and make a run at him, to see if there were leftovers.
