    ATP suspends two for betting

    The ATP suspended Italians Potito Starace and Daniele Bracciali on yesterday for making bets — some as little as $7 — on tennis matches involving other players. The Italian Tennis Federation denounced the penalties by the governing body as an “injustice” and the players said they have been made scapegoats. Starace ranked 31st was suspended for six weeks and fined $30000 the Italian federation said. Bracciali ranked 258th was banned for three months and fined $20000. Both suspensions take effect Jan.

    Dean rushed for 220 yards and a touchdown leading Katy to its fifth state championship with a 28-7 victory over Pflugerville in the Texas Class 5A Division II final. 5 team in the ESPN HIGH Elite 25 rankings completed a perfect 16-0 season as quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell added 142 passing yards and three TD passes at the Alamodome. But Katy struggled early needing a Hail Mary pass at the end of the first half to tie the game.

    SAN FRANCISCO #8211; When the playoff-bound Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to get some rest Shaun Hill and the San Francisco 49ers kept working for another late-season win. Hill passed for 123 yards and three touchdowns to remain unbeaten as an NFL starter and Michael Clayton landed out of bounds with his catch on a 2-point conversion attempt with 1:20 left in San Francisco’s 21-19 victory over Tampa Bay’s reserves Sunday. Darrell Jackson and Vernon Davis also caught touchdown passes for San Francisco which also won consecutive games for the first time since the season’s first two weeks.

    TEMPE Ariz. #8211; Neil Rackers gained a measure of redemption and sent the Atlanta Falcons to another loss in their demoralizing season. Rackers kicked a 29-yard field goal to force overtime then booted one from 31 yards on the first possession of the extra session to give the relieved Arizona Cardinals a 30-27 victory Sunday. He had missed what would have been a game-winning 32-yarder against San Francisco earlier this season.
