From Denmark to Germany to the United States the problem is the same with national Olympic committees complaining to Beijing organizers that ticket allocations were about half of what they expected. Even the families and friends of competitors may have to stay at home. “For certain sports it is almost impossible to get any tickets at all” said Jesper Larsen head of International Affairs for the Danish Olympic Committee. “Almost every NOC has experienced that the number of tickets they got allocated was much lower than what they were asking for.

MIAMI — The best thing about misery is the convenience. A late-morning slog through pregame “traffic” at Dolphin Stadium these days takes less than five minutes and the parking is choice. No elbowing no ear-numbing taunts no massive lines to the porta potties. A man can get some thinking done out here in this parking lot that used to be filled with rowdy tailgaters.

Harrington named RTÃ Sports Person of Year

Leading Irish golfer Padraig Harrington was awarded the coveted RT?Sports Person of the Year honour. Padraig was presented with the award live on stage by last year’s winner Kilkenny hurler Henry Shefflin. 2007 has been an amazing year for the Dublin golfer culminating in July when he became the first Irish man in 60 years to win the Open Championship and lift the famous claret jug. Celebrating the collaborative achievements of Irish athletes The RT?Sports Team of the Year award was presented to the Irish cricket team.
