    Times Online – Nov 28, 2007
Third failure and you’re out. Ohuruogu failed to show up at the right place and time three times in 18months and frankly that’s pretty bloody stupid. It’s also a sportingcrime; it has to be if we want drug-free sport. Ohuruogu was banned for ayear and so she should have been. Grow up get your act together try tobehave like a professional. She will always have this crime on her CV… Me I’d say the punishment was about right and her record of error neithershould nor could be expunged. Now let’s move on. Track and field remains a wonderful sport more capable of delivering peakmoments than any other sport in the calendar as a trawl through Olympicmemories will remind us — or for that matter Paula Radcliffe’s epicmarathon in New York City this autumn. The sport has suffered more than most from drug cheats most especially fromhigh-profile cheats (Marion Jones just this year). But at least half theproblem comes from the sport’s desperately sincere efforts to be clean; nosport has tried harder to catch drugs cheats no sport has succeeded incatching so many. There’ll be drugs questions for ever in track and field. We must accept that.

    Sports mascots are cash-generators
    Toronto Star – Nov 28, 2007
Cathal Kelly Sports reporter It began more than a hundred years ago with a bulldog named Handsome Dan. Yesterday Vancouver 2010 added to the mounting list with a few far more fanciful creatures: a sea bear a sasquatch and a thunderbird named Sumi. In the intervening century sports mascots have inspired loyalty and enmity courted controversy and earned bucket loads of cash for their employers. They are so ubiquitous it seems no love between a fan and his team can be cemented without a plush anthropomorphic animal standing in between to hug out the deal. "It’s gone from a walking logo to a vital marketing tool" said David Raymond a Delaware-based designer and trainer of mascots.
