Speaking after inaugurating a two-day zonal sports meet at Kadapa municipal stadium he said students could secure jobs under sports quota if they excelled in sports. The Government had directed appointment of adequate number of physical education trainers in Government as well as private institutions for imparting physical education to students he said. The conference attended by leading sportspersons administrators and coaches is part of the initiative taken by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) to develop a State legislation that promotes sport. “Sports for all and excellence in sports” will be the guiding preamble of the proposed policy and it has also been planned to establish a ‘Sports and Exercise Medicine’ centre at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium complex here before 2009. The conference stressed that cash incentives to medal winners — both at the international and National levels — should be disbursed immediately and only a nominal delay of 30 days would be feasible. It also reiterated that physically challenged athletes should be given due recognition and should be treated on par with other athletes while giving incentives.
