The fight was for the vacant WBC Continental Americas super middleweight title but more importantly it was two veteran warriors battling on Vargas’ home turf. Yet it was “El Matador” the native of Nicaragua who sent Vargas to the canvas twice and was able to squeak out the victory. The 29-year-old Vargas (26-5) lost the final three bouts of his career also falling to Shane Mosley twice.
