1 Martina Hingis announced on Thursday that she tested positive for cocaine during this year’s Wimbledon Championships and also announced her retirement from professional tennis. Hingis denied the allegations in a statement Thursday saying “I find this accusation so horrendous so monstrous that I have decided to confront it head-on by talking to the press. “I am frustrated and angry. I believe that I am absolutely one hundred percent innocent. Despite her protests Hingis said she doesn’t want to fight officials or try to battle back from injuries and instead will call it a career.

    Beach football: sport or pastime?
    BBC News – Nov 1, 2007
Nigeria and Senegal will fly the flag for Africa on Rio de Janeiro’s legendary Copacabana sands. Many people believe beach football – a five-man game divided into three 12-minute periods on a pitch slightly longer than a basketball court and about twice as wide – falls short of being a sport. Yet over the past decade it has evolved from a recreational activity to a global industry recognised by Fifa. But do you care? Should a group of people in swimming trunks having a kick-about on the sand be considered a genuine sport? Is beach football really worthy of having its own World Cup?Most dictionaries defines ’sport’ as ‘an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.

2 2007 Three and a half years ago when Miles O’Neil opened The Wicked Hop his “non-traditional sports bar” in the Third Ward some wondered about his business acumen. Did the Third Ward home to art galleries and trendy restaurants want a sports bar – even one with a sleek modernist décor and a menu of fresh chef-created items including entrées such as Balsamic-Citrus Salmon or Artichoke and Rosemary Chicken Scallopini? Turns out it did. On Saturday afternoon during the Badgers-Hoosiers game The Wicked Hop 345 N. Broadway was packed to the rafters. “We come for the screen and a nice place to watch” said Russ Gamsky of Greenfield who with some friends had a straight-on view of the 120-inch television that dominates the back wall of one of O’Neil’s two barrooms.

He made a comment that made me think. Maybe he was quoting a reporter but anyway he said: “Guys say they want a girl that likes sports but what they really want is a girl who LET’S THEM like sports. ” Is this true fellas? I mainly have a lot of guy friends (sports has nothing to do with the reason why) and I’m often thought of as “one of the guys. ” I have a great guy roommate who has unintentionally changed a lot of my vocabulary to make me sound more like one of the boys too. I love kicking back with them and watching games on TV at a bar or at someone’s apartment. The best date I ever went on was when my boyfriend took me to a Yankees vs. Tigers spring training game in March… The best date I ever went on was when my boyfriend took me to a Yankees vs. Tigers spring training game in March. My sister and I both love sports thanks to our dad who obviously wanted a son. Luckily my dad a Giants fan now has a son-in-law who’s a die-hard Eagles fan who he can talk smack to. Anyway Johnny explained that perhaps some guys feel a sports girl is stepping on their territory. For years Sunday and Monday nights was “boys’ night” where a man could gather with his pals guzzle beer and eat trans fat enriched foods without their bickering wives or girlfriends telling them to clean up or keep it down. Today more and more women are joining in with the guys’ fun cracking open cans or beer getting Dorito residue on their fingers and keeping up in conversations around the office water cooler about last night’s big game.
