    McLaren cites ‘best interests of the sport’ for not appealing…

    The team said Friday that it had notified motor racing’s world governing body that it would not contest the punishment forpossessing confidential documents belonging to F1 rival Ferrari. “McLaren thinks it is in the best interests of the sport andits goal of winning races and world championships not to appeal”the team said in a statement. McLaren was punished by the World Motor Sports Council on Sept. 13 in Paris but no action was taken against drivers.

    Eight sports centres have launched a partnership with Reading Borough Council to support residents who compete at a national level. The Sport Reading Futures Programme hopes the new scheme will prepare athletes for the Olympic Games and Paralympics in London in 2012. The council endorsed the scheme at a cabinet meeting on Monday. ‘Encouraging scheme’The Reading Sports Aid Fund will administer the scheme in partnership with the leisure centres and Reading Borough Council.
