China (Thursday September 20 2007) From The Sports Network Final Score: China 2 New Zealand 0 Tianjin China (Sports Network) – China got second-half goals from Jie Li and Caixia Xie to defeat New Zealand 2-0 on Thursday. The result combined with Brazil’s 1-0 win over Denmark on Thursday allows China to advance to the quarterfinals where they will meet Group C winners Norway on Sunday. New Zealand playing in its first World Cup since 1991 heads home after a disappointing 0-3 record and is also the only team that failed to score a goal in the competition. China controlled the opening half with New Zealand never threatening the net. Despite owning possession throughout the half China could not crack the scoreboard because of poor finishing and some nice work by New Zealand keeper Jenny Bindon.
