– A judge has scheduled a hearing Thursday toconsider removing disgraced Durham County District Attorney MikeNifong from office before he can resign. Nifong was suspended with pay from his elected post last weekand forced to turn over the keys to his office for his handling ofthe Duke lacrosse rape case. He was also disbarred. Nifong said he would resign July 13 but that wasn’t soon enoughfor Durham Superior Court Judge rlando Hudson who will consider apetition to remove Nifong that was filed by a Durham residentearlier this year. A separate request filed by the three falsely accused lacrosseplayers was expected to be heard by Durham Superior Court Judge W.

The CWS is just one of “The 101 Things Every Fan Must Experience Before They Die” a worldwide list of sporting events ranging from the lympics to the Coney Island hot dog eating contest. The big (the World Cup) and the small (Minnesota town ball) are here as well as the familiar (the World Series) and the obscure (the veterans wheelchair games) the expensive (the Masters) and the free (a Little League game). I’ve attended many of these events while friends and fellow writers swear by the ones I haven’t. The rankings are based on the total experience including the event itself the participants the setting and the atmosphere for the fans.

– Hunter Mahan watched Jay Williamson hit two great approach shots from the 18th fairway Sunday. Mahan stepped up both times and hit his just a little better. Mahan a former McKinney and klahoma State standout made the Travelers Championship his first PGA Tour victory by defeating Williamson with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
