Athletic Director Bob Bowlsby said Friday that Kenney displayeda “serious lack of judgment” when he deleted the swimmers frommedia guides that contain team statistics but the investigationdid not find any violation of NCAA rules. Kenney 64 who has coached the Cardinal’s men’s swim team for28 years apologized to Stanford students faculty alumni andathletes for “my error in judgment. “”I had no right to omit the records of any athlete on mediaguides or other publications” he said in a statement. “This willnot occur again.

The Belgians were last year’s Fed Cup runner-up to Italy but will be playing this weekend on the outdoor hard courts of the Delray Beach Tennis Center without Justine Henin or Kim Clijsters. Henin is the top-ranked women’s player in the world while Clijsters is ranked fourth. Henin declined to play because she wants to remain healthy for the major tournaments including the upcoming French pen where she is the two- time defending champion. Clijsters who did not play in last year’s Fed Cup final is in her last year of competition and is limiting her schedule as well.

– LSU’s governing board approved a new$425000-per-year contract for athletic director Skip Bertman onFriday an approval he said might have come earlier had it not beenfor Pokey Chatman’s abrupt resignation last month. A day after the LSU Board of Supervisors’ athletic committeequickly approved the contract on Thursday the full board approvedit Friday with little discussion. The contract package first announced in February calls forBertman to remain in his current job through next spring. He wouldthen remain at LSU in an emeritus role focusing on fundraising atthe same salary until June 2010. The board delayed a vote on the contract at its March 9 meeting– two days after Chatman the women’s basketball coach abruptlyresigned amid reports that she had been accused of improperrelationships with former players.
