Sports should be colorblind. It shouldn’t matter what ethnic or socioeconomic background a person has ability should be the sole criteria. This has hardly been the case however as our sports have a long history of segregation just as our society has. ver time though progress has been made and the possibility of meritocracy has come more into focus. The significance of Jackie Robinson’s breakthrough in this process cannot be overstated. A monumental quantum leap in breaking racial barriers Robinson opened the door for so many deserving players to play on the nation’s greatest stage. Recently however there has been much talk of a lack of African American players in today’s game.
