CBS’s decision to axe the popular Imus in the Morningshow which mixed locker-room humour with interviews with top starsand politicians follows days of uproar after Imus 66 called themostly black Rutgers University team “nappy-headed hos”. The move comes a day after he was jettisoned by MSNBC which hadbroadcast his radio show on television and after several majoradvertisers backed out. Debates over racial expressions are a frequent feature of anAmerican culture still struggling to come to terms with a legacy ofslavery and discrimination. “Nappy” is a slur describing thetightly curled hair of many African-Americans.

The Xuberance Weekend on Saturday and Sunday June 9 and 10 will feature top bands and top extreme sports stars as well as all the kit and gear that go with this fast-growing sector of the leisure market. – Jonathan Horton left the NCAA men’sgymnastics championships with two individual titles and a schoolrecord — though the biggest prize went to his klahoma teammate. Horton won the floor exercise and horizontal bar Saturday nightto give him five career NCAA individual titles breaking BartConner’s school record of three. Conner who won two gold medals in the 1984 lympics won theall-around title in 1977 and 1978 and the floor exercise in 1979. Horton accepted his first-place floor exercise medal with a biggrin and by playing air guitar as the klahoma fight song played onthe sound system.

Judge Chalerm Prayadsab ruled the bout 117-111 while Hector Hernandez scored it 115-113 in favor of Chagaev. Stanley Christodoulou called it even at 114-114. With the victory the 28-year-old Chagaev improved his overall record to 23-0-1. The first three rounds of the bout were pretty quiet as both fighters failed to land any quality punches.
