As part of the settlement reached Friday the university willset aside $300000 to be used over three years on women’s sports. A dozen female Slippery Rock athletes sued the school last yearafter it decided to cut eight sports including women’s fieldhockey water polo and swimming to save $350000. The schoollater decided to keep field hockey but members of the women’sswimming and water polo teams challenged the cuts in a federallawsuit.

If you want to knock a Web site offline all you need is a nationally syndicated radio show. That’s what ESPN Radio personality Colin Cowherd discovered last Thursday when he urged his listeners to visit a sports blog called Thebiglead. com flooding the site with so much traffic that it was shut down and then booted off its Romanian Internet service provider’s Web server.

I would have been about seven and grandfather’s love of the horses had me hooked. My first memory of taking part is riding my own pony in a gymkhana – when I was seven or eight – at the Almondesbury Show in Gloucestershire. I won an award for the most sporting rider of the day though I can’t remember why. Strangely I presented that very award at the same show recently.
