– After police seized steroids from thehomes of two of his linebackers University of Wisconsin-Stoutfootball coach Todd Strop fired off an e-mail warning his playersto stop using drugs or quit. “I am scared to know how deep the drug use is on this team butwe will with your help get it cleaned up” he wrote in the Dec. 21 e-mail obtained by The Associated Press in an open recordsrequest. “For those of you who are clean I apologize for notknowing and we are proud of you. ” Division III coaches at schools such as Wisconsin-Stout soonshould be better able to understand the extent of drug use amongtheir players.

– The University of regon has turned toprominent booster Pat Kilkenny to serve as athletic director forthe next two years. ne of his priorities will be getting a newbasketball arena back on track. Kilkenny replaces Bill Moos who in November announced plans tostep down next month. Kilkenny is chairman emeritus of San Diego-based ArrowheadGeneral Insurance Agency Inc. which he acquired in 1984 and soldin 2006.

Turner was offensive coordinator with the Chargers in 2001. He’s currently the offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers and was a finalist for the Cowboys’ head coaching job that went to Wade Phillips the Chargers’ former defensive coordinator. The Chargers also received permission to interview 49ers assistant head coach Mike Singletary and Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera both of whom also interviewed for the Cowboys’ job. The fourth candidate is Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan.
