    NASCAR confirmed rumors that the Series would expand those qualifying for its end-of-the-year “playoff” system from 10 drivers to 12 drivers. At the same time NASCAR eliminated the portion of the rules that proclaimed that anyone within 400 points of the lead qualified for the “Chase. ” The “400-provision” had never been used in the three-year history of the “Chase. NASCAR will also add 10 “Chase” points to each regular season event winner in the “Chase” in an attempt to make winning a race more important than “points racing.

    1 Nicole Vaidisova will play their quarterfinal matches Tuesday at the Australian pen.
