SPRTS F THE TIMES; You Can’t Go Home Again but You Can Win…
New York Times – Jan 14, 2007
toolsContainer –>. toolsRight –>By DAVE ANDERSN Published: January 14 2007 The Colts didn’t dare return the way they left nearly 23 years ago: in a dozen yellow Mayflower moving vans. Instead the Indianapolis expatriates arrived for yesterday’s divisional playoff in the Super Bowl XLI tournament in their usual caravan of buses which exposed them to an ugly welcome from Ravens loyalists as well as to Thomas Wolfe’s observation that you can’t go home again. At least not in the playoffs to Bawlmore as the natives pronounce it. To get to the American Football Conference championship game next Sunday and maybe to the Super Bowl it was fitting that the Colts had to go through Bawlmore and the Ravens’ vaunted defense. And they did winning 15-6 on Adam Vinatieri’s five field goals.
A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:
ESPN – Jan 14, 2007
He is now 34-for-42 on field-goal attempts in postseason play and during Saturday’s game he surpassed Gary Anderson’s previous NFL records of 33 postseason field goals and 40 attempts. First off it was the second time in his NFL career — not the third as was mentioned a couple of times during the telecast of the game — that Vinatieri has kicked five field goals in a postseason game. He’s the only player in NFL history who has booted five field goals in a postseason game more than once. (The other time that he made five field goals in a playoff game — he went 5-for-5 that day too — came at the expense of the Colts in the 2003 AFC Championship Game in Foxborough.
PESHAWAR: Girl students deprived of sports facilities
Pakistan Dawn – Jan 14, 2007
com ———- –>PESHAWAR: Girl students deprived of sports facilitiesBy Shah Bano DurraniPESHAWAR Jan 13: Female students of the University of Peshawar have complained that they are deprived of sports facilities in the name of cultural restraints despite being charged sports fees at the time of admission. A group of female students told this correspondent on Saturday that they were required to pay sports fees worth Rs680 at the time of admission to the university for facilities which did not exist on the campus at all. They said the university was unable to cater to the sports needs of all students. “There is only one gymnasium in the university meant for organising sports events for female students. But the same gymnasium is reserved for males later in the afternoon when most of the female students are free and want to avail of the facility” she said seconded by the whole group.

Sometimes you lose something and you really don’t know how. n their way to the Super Bowl the Chargers lost something they won’t get back. A playoff victory vanished in thin air. A postseason game that was theirs to win a game they controlled ended up a New England Patriots celebration.

Sunday was even sweeter with three birdies in the final four holes at the Sony pen in Honolulu for his first victory in 11 years. Goydos closed with a 3-under-par 67 and made birdie on the last hole when his 25-foot chip banged into the pin and settled within tap-in range. Charles Howell III and Luke Donald tied for second a stroke back. “I never felt like I was going to win” said Goydos who earned $936000 more than he made all last year.
