Rose coming off a 12-under 60 on Thursday was 17 under through 16 holes when the second round in the Funai Classic at Disney was suspended because of darkness. Clubhouse leader Tag Ridings was second four strokes back after a 66. Rose also had a four-shot lead when the round started after a 70-minute fog delay. Rose a 26-year-old Englishman shot the 60 on Thursday on the Palm Course and barely missed three putts over that final six holes that left him one stroke away from tying the PGA Tour scoring record.

1 Roger Federer and Chilean Fernando Gonzalez advanced to the finals of the Madrid Masters — the eighth of nine Masters Series events this year. The top-seeded Federer easily bested fourth-seed David Nalbandian of Argentina 6-4 6-0 in less than an hour at the semifinals on Saturday. With the victory over Nalbandian Federer has won 18 in a row and improved to 81-5 this season and advanced to his 14th final of the year. The matchup between Federer and Nalbandian was the 13th meeting between the two and Federer now holds a 7-6 edge all time. The Swiss superstar has also won seven of the last eight meetings between the two.

Irish sports take center stage in Canton

The Irish Sports Championships take place today and tomorrow at the Irish Cultural Centre of New England in Canton showcasing games of Irish football and hurling sports with long histories in the New England area. The championship series is sponsored by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). “The GAA was formed in 1884 and encompasses football camogie [a game similar to field hockey] and hurling” said Connie Kelly a representative of the GAA. “ur first game of football took place in the Boston Common in 1886.
