In the middle of the meet back here on the James Madison campus the university had announced it was eliminating men’s cross country and track along with eight other mostly men’s sports to comply with Title IX the federal gender-equity law. “Title IX was created in 1972 to prevent sex discrimination and it was needed” Jennifer Chapman a senior on the women’s cross-country team which is not being eliminated said four days later as she led a protest rally of 400 students on campus. “But look what’s happening now.

Duke lacrosse team back on field for charity event – College Sports

– Duke’s lacrosse team returned to the field Saturday playing a series of scrimmages at a charity event on Long Island. Duke had a two-hour scrimmage against Towson State and one-hour scrimmages against Hofstra — where new coach John Danowski previously coached for 21 years — and Division II school New York Institute of Technology. The scrimmages also featured Rutgers BYU Springfield College and host school Molloy College. The charitty event benefited the New York Police Athletic League’s Special Needs unit. “It was certainly an emotional day for all of us” Duke midfielder Ed Douglas said.

This was the third fight between the two but this bout was destined for a different outcome even before the start. The bout took an interesting turn Friday when Corrales tipped the scales five pounds overweight. Because of this he vacated the title which was only at stake for Casamayor who won on two scorecards 115-112 and 116-111 while losing 114-113 on another. There was a controversial knockdown in the fifth round.
