toolsRight –>By HARVEY ARATN Published: July 11 2006 IF she had not been otherwise engaged as the leading lady of a professional basketball team Diana Taurasi would have turned off her kinetic energy switch watched every moment of Sunday’s World Cup final right on down to the last P. But summer is Taurasi’s work-and-play season now and she was committed to a long team bus ride from Connecticut the state of her many collegiate conquests for the rare opportunity to play Madison Square Garden. Long known for superior court vision Taurasi cast a wandering eye to the asterisk posted next to Italy on the Garden scoreboard during the first half of her 36-point 9-rebound 5-assist masterpiece which carried the Phoenix Mercury past the Liberty 94-88 in overtime. Among other sports she is a fan of the game that the rest of the world calls football. Her father was born in Italy and moved to Argentina where he was a professional goalie and married an Argentine native. ”I guess I’m strictly Italian for the next four years” Taurasi born and raised in Southern California wisecracked in the Phoenix locker room.
